Stiff Plymouth nodding to the The Crazy Horse at the Ocean Rooms

The concept here came from a Crazy horse act in Paris, an act in which the female artist performed with only her legs, dis-locating and dismembering elements of herself, as a female performer and re-animating her sexuality with her legs, rear and groin area. Why did I do this, it was hot, I was turned on when I watched this, I wanted to recreate the same effect. Does this raise questions on the male perspective? Perhaps, However as an artist trained to read multiple scripts, I also realise the effect of this act must be way beyond a simple sexual heteronormative reading of the performer. In fact, I argue as a practiced spectator, it was in its paradoxes, its complexities that I found myself experiencing, her show. In a way, I believe I could be reversing or obliquing Halberstam’s notions of female masculinity, performing a form of male femininity. However, with a particular focus on revealing and performing the male musculature and corporeal being, rather than a specific focus on recreating and re-performing femininities. Now, I must shower.
